Welcome to Florida! Whether you just unpacked your last box or you are here for the winter, a little planning helps your coverage settle in as smoothly as you do. Here is a simple checklist to work through in your first few weeks.

Let us know about your move early

Many health plans are built around where you live. A move to a new area can affect which doctors and hospitals are in your network, and it may also open a window to change your coverage. Those windows have time limits, so it helps to call us soon after you arrive. We will look at what you have and let you know if anything needs attention.

Update your address everywhere

• Your insurance company or plan

• Social Security and Medicare, if you receive benefits

• Your pharmacy, including any mail-order service

• Your bank and any automatic payments for premiums

Find your new local team

Before you need care, take time to choose a primary care doctor near your new home. Transfer your prescriptions to a local pharmacy, too. Getting set up early means you will not be scrambling when you need a refill or an appointment.

Snowbirds, plan for two homes

If you split the year between Florida and another state, let us know your schedule. Some coverage works well in both places, and some is focused close to home. We will help you understand how your coverage works in each location so there are no surprises.

Get ready for hurricane season

Florida's hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. A few simple steps make a big difference:

• Keep photos of your insurance cards on your phone

• Store original cards and important papers in a waterproof bag or folder

• Refill prescriptions before a storm is expected
